Learning disabilities

Alertacall services provide a valuable aid to the many groups who have learning disabilities for housing associations, local authorities or for their own personal benefit.

learning disabilities

According to Mencap around 1.4 million in the UK are affected in some way with a learning disability, which is classified as being mild, medium or severe. These can be conditions that affect an individual’s ability to plan and organise, and many conditions have an impact on memory.  The effect of having a learning disability also increases the possibility of experiencing a mental health issue.  However, unlike mental health challenges, for those with learning difficulties, it is a lifelong challenge.

Our services provide support to these higher needs individuals, enabling them to cope independently, especially for those living alone.  This, in turn, helps them manage their condition and increase their wellbeing.

We provide a daily check, either initiated by the individual or by Alertacall.  This works very successfully with those who may be forgetful and do not press their OKEachDay button or have forgotten the process if they need help personally or at their property.

some other important benefits are:
  • Provides confirmation everything is fine if there is no carer (or on days when there is no carer)
  • Can provide additional checks during the day e.g. an evening check following a carer’s daytime visit
  • The system proactively identifies if there is a problem – not relying on ‘no news is good news’.
  • Allows housing providers to identify both repairs and maintenance requirements earlier than would have normally been reported, reducing repairs costs
  • Detects changing needs over time, which in turn helps identify additional needs e.g. assistive technology
  • Provides access to a friendly voice from a team specially trained in managing a range of conditions
