Social values

Our Social Values are centred on five core themes:
Subsidised and Free Services
- Each year, Alertacall provides free or subsidised services to individuals who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
- We work closely with each of our client organisations to minimise the financial impact of deploying our services – for many organisations, our services can be deployed as cost-neutral through a combination of funding available from local government and via access to our Social Value Fund.
- Since 2015, we have delivered over £2,000,000 worth of services to communities through our Social Value Fund.
Environmental Sustainability Initiatives
- We actively contribute to carbon reduction by planting a tree for each end-user of our services, with over 25,000 trees already planted in Cumbria.
- We also offer the option for some of these trees to be planted locally for our clients, for example, on the sheltered schemes used by our older customers.
- Our environmental sensors help clients monitor temperature and humidity, improving property management and reducing risks for vulnerable residents.
- We are committed to the responsible recycling of equipment (following WEEE Guidelines), ensuring that devices no longer in use are collected and disposed of sustainably.
- We use the device messaging facility wherever possible, and encourage our clients to do the same, to reduce the need for paper-based communications, reducing both of our impacts on the environment.
Enhancing Digital Inclusion and Safety
- Our touchscreen devices combat digital exclusion, offering several different communication methods to improve engagement between housing providers and residents.
- In social housing, these tools enhance two-way communication, security, and fire safety measures, improving overall service quality.
- Additional proactive reassurance calls are available for more vulnerable individuals, addressing loneliness and providing social support free of charge.
- Free of charge, we also make additional calls on people’s birthdays and at Christmas, as well as providing additional contact for those recently discharged from hospital.
Charity partnerships
- Dame Esther Rantzen, the Founder of The Silver Line charity (which is a 24/7 helpline available to older people), is Alertacall’s brand ambassador.
- Alertacall has recently promoted The Silver Line to over 1400 social landlords, highlighting the available support for those older people who are lonely and isolated.
- We also provide our service free of charge to a Cumbria-based charity, Time To Change, who offer temporary accommodation for homeless people and victims of domestic violence.
Supporting Alertacall staff to give back
- Everyone at Alertacall is given two volunteering days a year in addition to their annual leave, to give time to support charities, either via personal connection or charity initiatives fostered with Alertacall.
- In addition, time is given to support social initiatives led by our clients – previously this has included:
- Gardening at sheltered schemes
- Delivering gifts to vulnerable customers at Christmas
- Making packed lunches for under-privileged children at summer camps
- Sponsoring client events that provide additional support to their customers
Our social values are at the core of who we are as a company and are reflected in our culture on a daily basis. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and will continue to deliver on our social values in the future.
