Making Space, a leading national adult health and social care charity, has implemented Alertacall’s Housing Proactive service into a range of properties in West Yorkshire area. This follows the successful rollout of the service with its tenants across the North West. The Housing Proactive service increases contact with tenants who have higher needs for more effective housing management and helps to promote independent living.

In operation for over 35 years, Making Space was set up to provide health and social care services for adults with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, dementia and their carers.

The charity first adopted Housing Proactive in July 2017. Housing Proactive is a housing management service designed specifically for properties for higher needs customers. Initially implemented in Southport, Wirral and Knowsley, Making Space has now extended its agreement with Alertacall to also use the Housing Proactive service across multiple locations in Yorkshire, including Heckmondwike, Huddersfield and Leeds.

Through the Housing Proactive service, tenants are given a specially designed device installed in their property – all have a unique OKEachDay button through which customers engage with features of the service, including receiving property news and information. This, in addition to daily property checks undertaken via Housing Proactive, makes it easy for tenants to report their own repairs and better manage any issues with their homes.

In turn, the team at Making Space are given access to online management information in real-time, including occupancy tracking reports and a range of statistics on service usage, which helps determine how to best allocate their staff time and detect changing housing needs earlier.

Martin Cutbill, Director at Alertacall, commented:

“We are delighted to further develop our partnership with Making Space and help to improve communication with their tenants. This is a testament to the strong relationship developed with the Making Space team over the last two years and we continue to work closely with them to create added value services to further improve how staff are able to engage with individuals and enable them to stay in their own homes for longer.”

Steph Johansen, Regional Head of Operations at Making Space, added:

“Implementing Housing Proactive for our tenants in Yorkshire seemed the natural progression and made perfect sense based on the success we had in the North West. The feedback from both tenants and staff has been extremely positive. In addition to this, our commissioners have also welcomed the initiative as it’s a great example of using technology to enhance our own service offering!”
