Alertacall volunteers transform Abbeyfield House gardens

Residents at Abbeyfield House in Barnoldswick and High Lane (Stockport) are enjoying revitalised outdoor spaces after volunteers from Alertacall rolled up their sleeves to give the sheltered housing schemes’ gardens a complete makeover.

The volunteer days formed part of Abbeyfield House’s celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the not-for-profit Abbeyfield Living Society, which operates the house as part of a nationwide network of care homes, sheltered housing schemes and independent living complexes for older people.

Ten members of the Alertacall team spent the days pruning shrubs, trimming hedges, planting flowers, tidying pathways and assembling new garden furniture, transforming the outdoor spaces into an attractive area where residents can relax and socialise.

Before getting started, the volunteers spoke with residents about how they wanted the garden to look, ensuring their ideas helped shape the improvements. Once the work was complete, the team joined residents – who were quick to express their delight and gratitude – for refreshments, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the newly transformed space together.

Alertacall has worked with Abbeyfield House since last year, providing Housing Proactive® touchscreens which offer enhanced two-way digital engagement and enable residents to contact staff, report repairs and receive news and updates.  This easy-to-use technology has been well received by both residents and staff.

Alertacall employees receive two paid volunteering days each year to support charities and community initiatives linked to the organisations they work with.
