News from Alertacall plus articles and insights on how to enhance outcomes for people with higher needs in the housing, health and social care sectors.
Following on from our CEO and Founder, James Batchelor MBE, visiting a Places for People scheme and meeting with customer Norman and Baggy Shanker, the Member of Parliament for Derby South, James has been out and about, visiting more housing associations!

In April, James met Mike, a customer at Bromford Flagship LiveWest and Claire Young, MP for Thornbury & Yate. Back in February, and in Mike’s own words, Alertacall “saved his life.” Mike who is 79 years old passed out one evening, due to complications from a serious medical condition. His failure to engage with our Housing Proactive® service (for a routine occupancy check and to pick up housing related messages) was flagged as unusual.
As a consequence his critical condition was discovered and he was admitted to hospital, where he spent over a month recovering.
Mike thanked us and was enthusiastically telling Claire Young MP about how he used his Housing Proactive® touchscreen to report repairs and engage in several other ways with Bromford Flagship LiveWest.
James commented “It was not his pendant alarm that saved him (and yes he was wearing it) – it was because he is lucky to have a housing provider who takes the issue of establishing contact with its customers regularly – both seriously and diligently and one that utilises our service to help do that.”
“We’ve made several hundred saves like this over the years – all as a by product of having more two-way contact with older people about repairs, messaging, TSMs and more – but I rarely get to meet the people, so this was a pleasure.”
We love that Mike is making great use of the features of Housing Proactive®, such as reporting repairs and the messaging function. We’re also delighted to hear that Mike is well following the quick thinking of our brilliant contact centre colleagues and the fantastic Bromford Flagship LiveWest team, who helped to save Mike’s life.

Earlier this month, James visited Greatwell Homes to meet with Chris Holloway, Executive Director at the organisation and Gen Kitchen, MP for Wellingborough and Rushden. They discussed the issues both older people and housing providers like Greatwell face, how to prevent vulnerable people from being ‘left’ for long periods and how the power of technology and human contact can serve older people.
James demonstrated Housing Proactive® to Gen, which combines housing management functions on a touchscreen and housing-related, proactive human contact to show how it’s helping brilliant providers like Greatwell Homes better serve their older people.
